If you missed the Man Up pop up market in San Francisco in January you may still view some super rare Rising Sun pieces at this week’s Inspiration show in Santa Monica this weekend. We will be unveiling a collaboration with Deadgrass focused on really amazing pre-1900′s workwear that the world has not seen since, well, the 1800′s. More on that later.

Rising Sun will be participating at the San Francisco Man Up pop up market, which starts this Friday and runs through the weekend. Since their website describes the event so well we replicate their text here.

“Real men care about the way they look and how they spend their money. Man Up. aims to improve both. There’s nothing manly about looking like a slob. Man Up. is hosted by the Durable Goods Concern–four guys who enjoy well-crafted, fine-looking products that last. They also like to drink.”

There will be free drinks and art. It will also be a good opportunity to see Rising Sun pieces that are not normally shown outside Pasadena where we make our haberdashery home.  In addition to our well-appointed jeans (Yukon, Blacksmith, Standard, Ride’em) SF shoppers can also examine our selvage indigo canvas Outdoor Vest, hats, tees, jackets, and other goods made in our shop with our own hands with the help of some very antique and vintage sewing machines.

The House of the Rising Sun…Old World Craftsmanship for Your Denim

You like a bit of crazy now and then.

So when we heard about a denim designer so obsessed with craftsmanship that he went through gold mines to dig up the century-old jeans worn by the workers, we knew this was the guy you’d want cutting and sewing your next pair.

Namely Mike Hodis of Rising Sun & Co. Jeans, a cult label that crafts each pair of dungarees by hand in a three-man workshop in Pasadena, available exclusively at AB Fits.

When we say exclusively, we mean that only 18 pairs exist right now on the shelves. And when AB Fits sells one, the guys in Pasadena start making the next pair. Hodis designs all the jeans, which reflect authentic details of vintage workwear, and are crafted from his own custom fabric designed with one of the oldest denim factories in the country.

You’ll also be glad to know that instead of working in a factory using automated machines, each pair is meticulously cut and sewn by hand by Mike himself and then put together by a select team of tailors using vintage black-top sewing machines, just like they did in the 1800s.

Making them perfect for ringing in 2010.
