From the hundreds of items that we are going to have for sale, we chose to showcase a few of them. First, we have 7 US Army Vietnam-Era Vintage Fish Tail Parkas, $45/each, a good selection of Vintage Workshirts, twill as well as chambray, $15/each, and an even larger selection of Denim & Twill Fabrics 5-10yrds bundle from $5/ bundle. Lastly, a variety of Cones of Thread in various sizes and colors, 50cent/cone… and more to come in the next few days.

A few people have asked if the sample sale is open by appointment only, but this is not the case. Our doors are open to one and all. This is the perfect time to get some of the gift buying out of the way before the holidays.

Here at Rising Sun we crave the authentic things in life. This is why we often look to workwear of the past for inspiration. There is one iconic worker who had to take lots of abuse and still look rugged and handsome at the end of the day. The Ranch Hand.

Once again, Rising Sun’s Ranch Hand Jacket brings the this rugged charm back to life.

Since we know many of you have been waiting, we are happy to announce them finished just in time for the cold winter weather. This two pocket, pleated jacket, made from our signature brown duck is a timeless piece. We kept the details the same, using tobacco colored contrast duck on the inside of the waist band and the cuffs, and a steel buckle made from bending steel wiring as a back detail.

This piece is the Gent Waistcoat. It is crafted from the finest of wabash printed dot stripe selvage canvases. The gent features a flatbusted center back seam with inside selvage detail. The inner pocket is selvage edged with a custom Rising Sun patch. Its deep hunting pockets can subtly hold anything from your safely concealed passport to fresh quail. The chest pocket has been enlarged to perfectly fit your smart phone. This may be a vintage inspired piece but we consider your technological needs. With its plethora of features and hearty duck canvas this rusty beauty will be the pride of your wardrobe.

The Former Farmer

October has ended. Like every year, the seasons continue their slow rotation. Fall always makes me ponder the past. Two-hundred years ago our great grandparents would have spent this time enjoying fall squash and brisk clear mornings. Pumpkins dotted the fields instead of grinning from carved faces. (Fun fact: the carving of jack-o-lanterns didn’t catch on in America until the 1890′s when immigrants from Ireland introduced the custom.) And what were they wearing when carting tottering towers of ripe orange pumpkins? Why a farmer shirt of course! In the spirit of the season we have produced our own take on this classic piece.

Our Farmer Shirt continues the rugged traditions of these pre-1900′s work shirts. Made from wabash printed dot-stripe black selvage twill, it features the half placket pullover design favored by farmers of the time. With it’s bib front and secure chin strap it can stand up to the toughest abuse and protect the wearer from the harshest conditions. Gussets at the side seams feature selvedge edges, while the unique chest pockets mix the formality of welt pockets with the function of flaps. Beautiful mother of pearl fish-eye buttons add the final touch of polish. Our ancestors my not have looked this classy but that’s no reason you shouldn’t.

First Lookbook

On a June morning we decided to gather up a few friends and head out for an impromptu photo shoot. We drove to a friend’s remote ranch in Altadena and started shooting. While drinking beer out of mason jars we were treated to live music by our fellow artists. The entire day, with the place and the clothes, harkened back to a simpler time. The end result was a glimpse into what occurs when like-minded individuals come together for a common cause. Thus was formed Rising Sun & Co’s first lookbook.

The hardcover bound book can be purchased for $50 at the Rising Sun & Co. store in October. For those who love getting mail, shoot us an email to have it shipped right to your door in all its high-gloss glory.

Yukon Gold

The Yukons are our most period accurate waist overalls that we make here at Rising Sun. If you know anything about us and how we do things then you know that makes these some very period accurate trousers. These are a Rising Sun original that wouldn’t look out of place on the shelf of a general store in the 1890′s. We are just putting the finishing touches on a new batch Yukons here in our shop and I though you might like to see some of the process.

The Intern

Well hi there. I’m the new guy. The amazing underling. The gopher. The one who does the little things with pleasure while soaking up all the knowledge I can find! I’m a summer transplant from New York who is out in Los Angeles to entrench myself in LA’s vibrant denim culture. I have but one year of study left at Cornell University as an apparel design student who focuses on menswear in general and denim in particular. Denim is the love of my life. It’s that simple.

My name is Jesse F. Ruoff and this is my post.

That’s me right there, wearing our signature Engineer jacket. There are only six left so grab one if you want one! Hey, it’s no shirt off my back…oh wait, yes, yes it is exactly that. But all of our jackets go to good homes. How can they not? They’re great jackets for great people just like, hmm…oh I don’t know, you perhaps? Yes you. No, not that guy reading your screen over your shoulder, you.

A little habit of mine is to make bracelets out of the scraps of whatever I’m working on at the moment. The leather is from a personal bag project while the indigo selvage was leftover from constructing the Engineer jackets. My whole arm would be covered if the bracelets didn’t break, get lost, or become nasty. I’ll get there eventually!
